As a result of reading Chapter
7, and participating in related class discussions and activities, you
should be able to:
(1) Compare the differences
between low-context communication style and high-context communication
style;
(2) Realize the importance of culture-sensitive self-disclosure
and the sharing process;
(3) Differentiate linear persuasion
style and spiral persuasion style across cultures;
(4) Develop an initial understanding
of self-face concern and other-face concern in intercultural requesting
situations;
(5) Practice ethnorelative
thinking concerning different conversation styles and be able to code-switch
adaptively and flexibly across cultures.
