1. One of the most important concepts
in this chapter is “system.” So that you really understand what
a system is, and what its characteristics are (as discussed in the text),
make a list of as many systems as you can think of (e.g., a social system,
the solar system, a classroom). Then, choose one from your list and analyze
it in detail showing how each of the characteristics helps to describe the
system you selected.
2. Pick three settings and analyze the diversity within them. Your analysis
can be based on race, ethnicity, sex/gender, clothing, size, age, hair
color, or whatever you choose. This activity can be conducted in any kind
of setting: the cafeteria, in your residence hall, or in a class.
