* What percentage of people in the U.S. speak a language other than English at home? Of this number, what languages are most common? Once you've mentally completed this exercise, compare your predictions with actual data from the U.S. Census 2000.

* Visit the Oxford English Dictionary online. Notice the origins of commonly used words in the English language and how their meanings have actually changed over time!
